Re-run forecast vs. Run scenario vs. Run and Publish scenario

Re-run forecast: Clicking the edit button opens the respective forecast’s edit parameter screen, where you can change or update the forecast parameters and rerun the forecast.

While re-running the forecast, you can decide on one of the two options.

  • Run as scenario plan: This option allows you to run the forecast without publishing the forecast results to the downstream time series.
As this option is selected in the edit forecast flow, the application creates a new record under the original forecast.

This record will be grouped with the original forecast.

  • Run and publish forecast: This option allows you to run and publish the forecast results to the downstream time series.
As this option is selected in the edit forecast flow, the application will not create a new forecast record in the list screen.

Instead, the forecast record will be updated with the new name provided. Once the forecast runs successfully, the values will be copied to the downstream time series.

Note: You cannot edit the Forecast filters and hierarchy levels in the edit parameter screen.

To edit created forecast parameters, click on the more option in the forecast list screen and click on edit.

Check the illustration below for the edit parameters button.

Planners can edit any forecast results by clicking the edit button. The following page will appear once you click on the edit button.

The selected attributes, hierarchy level, and output measure on the edit page cannot be changed. However, fields like input measures, time horizons, and forecast methods can be modified based on the planner's requirements.

After changing the required parameters, clicking "Run Forecast" will display a popup where you must select one of the two options.

  • If you select the "Run as Scenario" option, a forecasting job will be created within the same forecast job as a scenario.

  • A dropdown button will appear next to the main forecast job, and clicking on it will display a list of scenario forecast jobs.

  • You can create multiple forecast scenarios by adjusting and running different parameters using the "Run as Scenario" option.

  • This allows planners to compare various forecast outcomes without affecting the main forecast job.

If you select the "Run and Publish" option, the forecast values will be copied to the downstream measures, ensuring that the updated forecast is reflected across all relevant time series. The existing estimates will enter the "Running" state with the latest changes applied, allowing the system to process and update the forecast accordingly.

Run as a scenario: This option allows you to run forecasts, verify their accuracy, and adjust the forecast algorithm by modifying parameters. However, this option will not copy the forecast results to the downstream time series.

  • For example, consider a tenant configuration where the forecast results are stored in Statistical Forecast units. The same is copied to the Consensus demand plan, Sales forecast units, and Marketing forecast units. Once this option is selected, the application will not copy the statistical forecast units to the above three time series.

  • The Run as scenario forecast jobs can be identified in the list screen with the help of a symbol.

Run and publish forecast: This option runs the forecast and copies the results to the downstream time series.

  • Copying forecast results to the downstream time series

The application copies the statistical forecast results to downstream measures only for periods without overrides.

If the planners override the downstream measures for a few periods, the new forecast results will not be copied to those periods. However, the forecast results will be copied to the period where the planner made no overrides.

For example, consider an item “Etab 2000 v1: Walmart: All: All.”

  • The planner has submitted overrides for Sales manager forecast from Jan 2024 to April 2024

  • A new statistical forecast is generated from Jan 2024 to Dec 2024.

  • The new forecast will not be copied to the Sales manager forecast from Jan 2024 to April 2024, as the user has already submitted overrides. But the forecast will be copied from May 2024 to Dec 2024

  • The run and published forecast jobs can be identified with the green check mark.
